I'm heading out to Uncle Robert's Kawa Bar in Kalapana, a truly unique experience. We don't have hula or ke?po tonight so we are hitting the party with family and friends. Uncle Robert's is a no judgment zone bar, and on Wednesday it's market time, farmer's market plus all kinds of food, booths and tables (it's like $15 to set up a table) of all sorts of stuff. I'm hoping Aku has made lau lau (10 for $20). One of my faves is pulisami, vegan Samoan food. I'm vowing to try something different every time. They are giving out candy for the kids and it's going to be a crazy night. Uncles's family plays Hawaiian music all night, though they jam Jimi Hendrix and Marley or anything they feel like - these guys are really good. People get up and dance and sometimes do hula. Hawaiian hospitality at it's finest. As Uncle Robert says, "We aren't here for the money, we're here for the community. We got to rely on each other and that gonna be more and more important."
