We've got a lot of Canadians around here; if anyone has more info on the event and the fighter, please share it.

A 35-year-old man collapsed and died Saturday after losing a mixed martial arts fight in Port Huron.

Port Huron Police Lt. Duane Loxton said emergency crews were called to the American Legion on Sixth Street at about 9:30 p.m. after the fighter collapsed a few minutes after his bout.

The man was living in Canada but is from Nigeria. His name has not been released pending notification of his family.

Loxton said the fight was ended by a judge’s ruling in the third round. The man had lost the fight, but he and his opponent were believed to be evenly matched. After the decision, the man told a trainer that he wasn’t feeling well and later collapsed. A paramedic at the American Legion administered aid before emergency crews arrived.

Loxton said an autopsy was conducted Sunday.

Cause and manner of the man’s death have not yet been determined. Loxton said lab results are pending.

The American Legion and Jamie Forton, the contact listed on the Amateur Fighting Club website, declined comment Monday.
