Greetings All,
I'm making my introduction here after reading the stickies that should be above my post. This is, of course, to let you who are interested know a little about me.
I am 38 years old and have never seriously studied Martial Arts. When I was 5 or 6 my parents enrolled me in a class that lasted up until I received my "yellow" belt. All I know is it was "Karate" and I was removed because my parents had niether time nor money for me to contiue. And, yes, I can't remember anything from it.
I have always wanted to get into learning an art but have not been able to find one to study in primarily. I have found many TKD schools but I am not sure if my flexibility (read as "lack thereof" ) would be right for it. And because I am taller and thin I am not sure if BJJ would be a good fit for me either.
I have talked with a few schools in the last couple of years and I was not impressed enough to join any. A couple were closing down or removing a program due to lof participation. One school, which is close to me, I went to and seen the "master" who does not strike me as a master.
Originally I found this site while looking for possible schools and styles to check out to see if it would fit what all I'd like. My reasoning in chosing a MA has been because I want the focus, fitness, discipline, and the traditions associated with a proud martial art. I'd like t have an increased confidence in my self and my abilities as well as know that I have some sort of fighting chance if ever the need arises.
In no way do I have a desire to street fight or jump onto a mat for competative fighting. I think those days may have passed me up and I am honestly not sure if I ever would have done so in the first place.
Thank you for taking the time to read my introduction. I hope it was a good enough one. I will be reading and absorbing any and all info I can from this site. You can definately see the work people have put in.
