How can I start learning HEMA, if I am on my own?

So it is seems likely I will need to start on my own.

I assume the way to go would be to get reading, practice what I can and look for conventions or workshops that I could travel to.

Can anyone recommend what might be a good foundation to start with?

I do have some experience with FMA (2 years) so hopefully that experience is something I can grow on.
