Self Defense?

Hey guys, brand new member here looking for some advice.

So, I intended on picking up a TMA for the culture/discipline/spirituality/philosophy etc, etc. However, do to a recent schedule change and a scuffle a friend of mine got in to..I've flipped my priorities around and I'd like a solid understanding of self defense.

I'm not looking for a lecture on self defense and laws, I've read up on them and I have a pretty solid understanding. I also know that avoidance/prevention is the best method. Having said that, I'm looking for advice for the time when you CAN'T run. If I ever get into that situation, I want to be able to defend myself.

So, on that cheery note, as a guy with no previous martial art experience, can you recommend a couple of styles to look into for practical, tried and tested, applicable self defense styles?

I've heard a couple names thrown around like Combat Sambo, Krav Maga, KFM, Propkin Brogna from friends and the internet.

I'm not looking for the "Best self defense style" etc, I'm just looking for a style that is applicable to real life scenarios and that has been used for that sole purpose. I'll make sure that if I take it up I find a good instructor and a school that spars.

So, any recommendations?

Thanks,

Zophir.

P.S. I like having all these rage faces on the side over here --->. I approve, for whatever that's worth.
