Ok boys (and girls) I need a bit of advice on how to handle a situation of the Martial Arts kind. My cousin (in his late 20's) loves the martial arts, particularly the eastern ones. He is a kung fu nut but has been out of practice for quite some time. He studied at an underground place for a few years but it wasent kung fu...he called it a mix of everything but made sure to be clear that it was NOT MMA, but thats not the point. He is always looking for a good kung fu place or just a martial arts place in general but 1 issue always comes up.
He thinks kung fu is simply better then everything else. Its almost like im dealing with a 16 year old sometimes, who has watched to many movies. I honestly dont know what to do. Im still looking for a martial arts place myself and I also want to give kung fu a shot but some of the arguments I hear from him make me wonder.
He FIRMLY believes in chi and all that it can (supposedly) do.
In his mind kung fu is more deadly then anything else, perhaps not harder hitting but just...better.
Most people who bash kung fu know nothing of its power.
He views the fights that you see in movies as being semi realistic and possible to some degree.
He claims the "Animal styles" are some of the deadliest fighting arts period.
He wants to learn Drunkin Fist because apparently its practical.
He wants to also, go to the Shaolin Temple and train with the monks for a few years, he claims he will come back as an amazing fighter
He just recently found a guy who claims he can teach him Wushu that can be applied in real combat and is "what Jackie Chan" knows
There are more but I cant think of anything else specific.
So honestly guys......what do I do? Am I dealing with a delusional man-child who needs to be woken up or is he perhaps on to something?? He TALKS like he knows what he's doing but from everything i've seen....yes SOME kung fu styles can be effective but none of them seem to be the "unbeatable art" he seems to be looking for.
What do I do? What do I say to him?
